November 2017 Update

Hello Men of the Hill,

I have two items for your attention in this post…

MEN’S DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS

Quite a few of you have shared that you sense God’s call meet with other men to encourage each other in your walk with Jesus. Great! Let’s do it! I don’t think we need another planning meeting.  We simply need men to commit to meet with other men.

1) Gather some men and choose a regularly meeting time and place.  I’d encourage gathering weekly with two to five men.  If you’re looking for a group to join or are looking for men to join your group, let me know and we’ll start sharing available groups!

2) Set some expectations.  Differing expectations for a group is a recipe for failure.  Here’s what we want to see in our Men of the Hill discipleship groups.

Committed to: Meeting Together, Listening well, Humility, Supporting (not fixing), Complete Confidentiality
When Together: Honest and mutual updating, Time in the Bible, Praying Together
When Apart: Time in the Bible, Time in Prayer, Quick connects with each other during the week

3) Plan your content.  You have countless options.  Let me suggest you consider using “Equipping the Man in the Mirror” magazine (sample here).  This includes short, daily devotions, and a weekly section of group questions.  I’ve ordered 48 copies of the 4th Quarter 2017 edition.  They should be here in two to three weeks.  Just in time for your group to get started!

MONTHLY MEN’S SUPPER

(find on facebook)

There is a “revamped” monthly men’s supper happening in local churches in our area.  All Christian men (and their friends) are welcome regardless of church affiliation / denomination.  I attended the first gathering in October, and heard there were over 70 men at Littleton Baptist in November.  The next dinner is at the Oakfield Baptist Church, Monday, December 4th at 6:30pm. Each monthly dinner will be followed by a time of worship and a message on one of the life-characteristics found in 2 Peter 1:5-7.

Looking forward,

Pastor Travis

September / October 2017 Events

We become more like Jesus as we share and serve together.  Here are some opportunities in the next month to connect with other Christian men.

Saturday, September 30 @ Resting Arms, Island Falls

Starting at 8:00 a.m. there will be a wood cutting/splitting/stacking “party” at Resting Arms Ministries in Island Falls.  They’re looking for many men from many local churches to tackle this big job together.  This is an excellent time for believers to walk along side the residents who are currently seeking spiritual health.  Hot dogs and coffee will be provided.  Please bring any equipment you may have access to, chain saws, wood splitters, etc. Please contact Pastor Travis at 207.423.6089 (call or text) if you are able to come.  They need a head count for lunch.

Monday, October 2 @ 1st Baptist, Houlton

A new monthly Christian men’s dinner is starting in the greater Houlton area.  October’s gathering will be at 1st Baptist from 6:30 – 8:00pm.  After dinner there will be a time of worship and teaching.  Pastor Ben Greene will share the first in a series of messages from 2 Peter 1:5-7.  If you’re free, check it out and bring some other men with you!

Friday / Saturday, October 13-14 @ The Church on the Hill

We want the Men of the Hill to be visible and provide excellent hospitality during our “Marriage: Better Together” conference.  Whether or not you are attending the event, there are places you can serve.  We’re looking for a greeting / parking team for Friday night and Saturday morning; set-up and clean-up crew; snack and lunch servers.  Please contact Paul Nadeau (538.7875) or Allen Burrill (540.5892) if you can help.

Having Fun and Getting it Done!

Saturday, May 20 was a full AABA ministry day in the life of our church.  We had three teams of men serving all over our community.

Team #1: We had a group of men share their skill and some fun  equipment to prepare the ground for our new AABA building.  I heard one of our staff delightfully recount how Mike Nadeau laid out the gravel perfectly flat as measured by a level.

Team #2: We had ten men help sand the church bus in preparation for painting.  Darrin and Matthew Crane (not in photo) arrived early.  Tim and I arrived a little after 10 and found the job already 90% done.  Thanks guys!

Team #3: Thanks to the couple of men who worked with AABA in our monthly outreach and the carnival hosted at the Wesleyan church.

To all the Men of the HIll…keep an eye out for places to serve together.  It is better together!  If you are able to help with taping and painting of the school bus, more needs to be done.  Please contact Gordon or Dean Mitchell (456-6155) or Roy Fitzpatrick.  Thank you!  Glory to God and His peace to our community.

March 11, 8-9:30 am: Discipleship Workshop

Hello men,

This is our second workshop about One-to-One and Small Group discipleship.  We’ll have some material from Man in the Mirror Ministries and Travis will share insights from the impactful John 17:23 pastoral Small Groups supported by Barnabas Ministries.

Our goal is for every man to experience life-on-life discipleship with other men.  The plan is to try for some level of intentionality as we look for God to coordinate these relationships.

Contact Pastor Travis with any questions or suggestions.
